Primary Schools

Overview: Outreach Programme

KEHS has always played a key role in the local community, forging extensive links with local maintained primary and secondary schools. We are now one of the leading schools in the country recognised nationally for our work undertaken in the community.

In 2016/17, we worked with over 1000 local primary school children providing regular workshops where pupils were able to experience interactive, hands on activities working in small groups. These workshops are aimed at stretching and challenging the most able pupils in Years 4, 5 and 6. Recent workshops have included the Autumn Challenge, which focused on core subjects (Maths, English and Science), Film Technology workshops and a Creative Writing workshop.

We also run gifted and talented enrichment sessions every Friday, taught by experienced KEHS staff. In 2016/17, over 70 pupils from 7 state primary schools have attended Friday afternoon enrichment lessons in Maths, English, Science and Spanish; these have been delivered by Harry Kavanagh, Jonathan Chatwin, Mel Hopkinson and Egus Mikalerena.

Harry Kavanagh delivers Maths Master Classes for post 16 students which are attended by A level students and their teachers from schools across the West Midlands. In addition, he hosts ‘Magic in Maths’ classes for primary school children. We also have a book of resources available to support talented junior school mathematicians, called Challenging Activities for Able Mathematicians.

We are the only teaching school currently offering this particular model of CPD where CPD sessions are delivered by our staff with your own pupils present at the workshops!
