On Saturday 15th September, 16 Lower Fourth girls travelled to Sand Bay, near Weston, to be involved with a beach clean organised by the Marine Conservation Society. Ex-Olympic Swimmer Sharon Davies, a patron for the Charity, opened the clean and the girls got to work clearing up the beach and removing litter.
Last week the Upper Fifth attended their first careers talks of the Autumn term. Each girl chose to listen to one of three talks by visiting speakers. Steve Ward of KPMG spoke about a career in finance and the routes open to new entrants. Dr Emily Russell (OE 2012) talked to girls about medical school.
On Friday 14th September, 30 Art students from the Upper School embarked on a visit to the National Portrait Gallery in London. They visited the Michael Jackson ‘On the Wall’ Exhibit, showcasing a variety of pieces honouring his life and career in a multitude of ways, including film and sculpture.

In August, three KEHS physicists, Blessing, Lucia and Jessica, travelled to Geneva, Switzerland, for five days of all things particle physics at CERN - the European Organisation for Nuclear Research. They were joined by three boys from KES, and students from schools across London.

On Tuesday evening our Lower Fifth GCSE Drama students went on their first live theatre trip to see The 39 Steps at The Crescent Theatre, Birmingham. It was an incredibly inventive production with just four actors performing over 30 roles, with numerous settings being re-imagined using only four benches.
Aliyah in the Upper Fifth has been shortlisted for Birmingham's Young Poet Laureate award. After submitting two of her poems for consideration, she has now been invited to an interview at the Library of Birmingham, where she will perform an additional poem of her own, as well as one that she admires.
