This year’s Senior Production, directed by Mrs Higgins from KES, runs from Thursday 25th to Saturday 27th January and includes a talented cast of 45 actors evenly split across KEHS and KES; 12 talented musicians are also providing the lively soundtrack, led by Musical Director Mr Jarvis.
Eminent neuroscientist Dr Ahmed from the School of Medicine at the University of Birmingham visited the Religious Studies Department on Wednesday 24th January. He came to speak to the Sixth Form about current research on the brain and how this links to philosophical theories of the mind.
On Monday, girls from the Upper Fifth to Upper Sixth spent lunchtime listening to Old Edwardian Sonia Razi talk about her experience of studying Economics at UCL (with a year abroad) and her current role at the Home Office as an economist in the Civil Service Fast Stream.
Last weekend, Emma and Saran in the Upper Fourth travelled to Birmingham Airport to welcome their exchange partners, Harriet and Brooke, from New Zealand. The girls will attend KEHS for five weeks as part of our International Links Partnership with Rangi Ruru Girls’ School in Christchurch.
Last weekend, two teams from KEHS competed at the English Speaking Union Public Speaking Competition which took place at Solihull School. The speakers were Nikita, making an excellent convincing argument on the value of Trident, supported by Shahnoor as Questioner, and Ria as Chair.
Congratulations to Rosy, in the Lower Sixth, who has been invited to join the Ex Cathedra Girls Academy adult choir. Rosy will be performing in their upcoming concert, ‘Mozart’s Women.’
Last Friday evening, Mrs Atkins and her Upper Sixth A Level Spanish students hosted our annual Salsa Night, which took place in the school hall and was attended by students and staff from both KEHS and KES.
The University of Cambridge Ancient World Video competition is now open! Students in the Upper Fourth to Upper Sixth are invited submit a video that brings the Ancient World to life! You can enter as an individual, or in teams of up to four students. The deadline for entries is 2nd April 2018.
The ‘My Epic Era’ history competition is back! Last year, Sanika Kharwadkar won second place. Girls can enter a picture, painting, story, poem, song or video about any person or period in history.
Applications are now open for the University of Oxford Q-Step Centre essay competition. Students in Year 12 are invited to answer the question: ‘Vital statistics.
Keble College, Oxford, has just launched its annual competitions in French, Spanish and German. The Spanish Flash Fiction and French Film competitions are open to Years 7 to 13.
On Friday 12th January, 22 Upper School Classics students attended a lecture by Dr Michael Scott (University of Warwick and television presenter) on the 'Gritty Realities of Ancient Greece'.
On Thursday 10th January, a group of Lower Fifth students studying Physics and Art visited Birmingham University for a workshop entitled 'Physics through Fine Arts', delivered by Dr. Kostas Nikolopoulos and Ian Andrews.

Last weekend, five girls competed in the Warwickshire Junior Inter-County Squash Championship finals at the University of Nottingham.
Over the Christmas holiday, Lily had a wonderful time taking part in the ‘World’s Biggest Panto’ which took place at Birmingham Arena and Wembley Arena, garnering an audience of over 50,000 across 12 shows!
Old Edwardian Madeline recently won the opening round of the quiz show Mastermind, choosing the Harry Potter series as her specialist subject. Madeline found her talent for quizzing whilst at KEHS by taking part in the British Schools’ Challenge event.
Old Edwardian Jessica Butcher (Class of 1996) has been made an MBE for services to digital technology and entrepreneurship in the New Year’s Honours List 2018.
On Wednesday 13th December, the Art and Russian departments welcomed Assyriologist, art historian and art consultant, Julia Chmelenko, to KEHS where she delivered a fascinating talk about the history of Russian art.

Congratulations to our Key Stage 3 badminton team who recently won the Birmingham School Games tournament! They did extremely well, winning all of their matches against the University of Birmingham School, Bishop Challoner and Camp Hill. They now progress to the next round of the competition in February.
