On Monday 9th October, historian, author, columnist and television presenter Dominic Sandbrook delivered KEHS’ second PA sponsored lecture at the Ruddock Performing Arts Centre.
On Monday 9th October, Sixth Form students attended a public discussion focusing on the ‘Rising Problem of Homelessness’ at Opus Restaurant in Birmingham City Centre. The talk focused on a range of issues including ethics, economics, politics and philosophy.
On Wednesday 4th October, the Lower Fifth and Upper Sixth Ancient Greek students embarked on a slightly oversized (50 seat!) coach to Warwick School's Bridge House Theatre to watch Sophocles' Antigone. This was particularly useful for the Lower Sixth, as it is one of our set texts for A Level.
Last week, the Upper Fifth attended their second set of careers talks, held as part of their PDM programme. There were four talks on offer on this occasion.
On Tuesday 10th October, several of our girls performed in the Ruddock Performing Arts Centre for the first Performers’ Platform. Jessie gave an expressive performance on the piano of Schubert's Impromptu op. 90 no. 2. Nikita performed the jaunty first movement of Hurlstone's Sonata in F major for the bassoon.
On Monday 2nd October, our season of instrumental evenings began with a piano instrumental evening in the Ruddock Performing Arts Centre. Rhea, Renee and Lauren performed as part of an oboe quintet, which concluded the concert with a performance of Theodore Dubois' Quintette. Well done to all involved!
On Thursday, eight of our Upper Fifth and Lower Sixth girls attended the Girls Go Gold Conference. Students from Girls Schools' Association member schools across the country gathered in Wimbledon for an inspiring day of elite sport, focusing on what it takes to be a high performing athlete in today’s world.
The first two girls to take part in this year's international exchange arrived in Vancouver last weekend. Amelia and Erin were met by their exchange partners and families and are seen here at Vancouver airport on arrival.
Last weekend, Anya (U4S), Meha (3S) and Trinity (3K) all played in the Warwickshire County Closed Squash Tournament at the Freedom Leisure Centre in Warwick.
On Thursday 28th September, seven Lower Sixth Classicists set off to the University of Cambridge, home to one of the best Classics Faculties, for a day of lectures based on our A Level set texts.
On 29th September, students from the Thirds visited Compton Verney with the Art department. The trip provided an opportunity to discuss paintings and sculptures with experts and involved a variety of activities linked to the current exhibition featuring optical art from George Suerat to Briget Riley.
On October 3rd, Upper Fourth students visited Coventry Cathedral. The purpose of the trip was to learn about the Cathedral’s work in relation to reconciliation. Coventry Cathedral is one of the world’s oldest centres for reconciliation.
On Friday 29th September, KEHS staff and students took part in the world’s biggest coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. The staff were spoilt for choice with an assortment of cakes, cookies, shortbread, flapjacks and brownies. Over £280 was raised and all proceeds will be going to Macmillan Cancer Support
This week, Mr Lea delivered our annual Harvest Festival assembly. He emphasised the importance of donating to local foodbanks in and around Birmingham and highlighted how our contributions are appreciated by local needy people.
On Saturday 30th September, 44 Upper Sixth students had the opportunity to be interviewed in preparation for courses at Oxford, Cambridge and Medicine. The students experienced rigorous and challenging questions, which required a high level of lateral thinking.
