World Book Day

Despite the cold weather it was lovely to see nearly the whole school taking part in World Book Day 2020, dressing up as characters across the spectrum of literature. There were numerous other activities taking place over the course of the day, including a bookmark treasure hunt, bookworm bookmark making, puzzles, crafting and even a ‘Bookbustars’ quiz. Despite many pupils being unfamiliar with the gameshow Blockbusters, it was well attended, with the winners taking away some brand new books as prizes!

The most popular activity of the day was the ‘Match the Shelfie’ competition. Several members of staff have taken pictures of their bookshelves at home and students have been challenged to match them up with the correct teacher! So far, we have managed to raise an impressive £250 for Book Aid! Textbooks and learning materials have the highest impact for improving primary school outcomes in many developing countries. 171 million people could be lifted out of poverty if all pupils left school with basic reading skills. Every £2 raised sends a new book, providing stock to mobile libraries, refugee camps and health books for women; donations can even help to finance a starter library for a school!
