German Exchange Visit

This week, we have had an exciting visit from our German exchange school, the Gymnasium Oldenfelde in Rahlstedt, Hamburg. 18 pupils and two teachers flew into Birmingham with suitcases of winter clothes, only to find themselves in sunnier climes, which left them asking where the famous “British weather” had gone. The German pupils settled into family life with their hosts and made the most of all the opportunities offered to them, spending a day in the schools going to lessons with their exchange partners, as well as collaborating on a joint programme on cultural differences between Germany and England. The German students also enjoyed a full programme of sightseeing activities including a day trip to Stratford-upon-Avon, an art gallery visit in Birmingham city centre, a sunny trip to the top of Birmingham library, as well as a fascinating tour of the “Back to Back Houses” in Hurst Street. In school, afternoon tea with sandwiches, scones, cakes and an English breakfast were enjoyed, alongside KEHS and KES students. The German Departments at both KEHS and KES would like to thank all the families who hosted the German pupils: they had nothing but praise for the very warm welcome which they enjoyed over the week. We look forward to the return leg to Hamburg in June!
