United Kingdom Young Physicists Tournament

Last term, a team of eight physicists (Melissa, Connie, Blessing, Saffron, Jess, Katrina, Maha and Lauren) from the Upper Fifth to Upper Sixth participated in the United Kingdom Young Physicist Tournament. After school on Wednesdays and Fridays, they investigated five different practical problems that included the physics of bottle flipping, the burning of floating candles, straw flipping in fizzy drinks, soap bubbles and sand piles. Their research led to some interesting and impressive findings and they came second nationally in the competition gaining the silver medal. This was a great success, although sadly it did mean that they lost out on the chance to represent the UK in the International competition in China next summer.
