Speech Day

On Thursday 29th November, we held our annual Speech Day, a celebration of the achievements of the forthcoming Class of 2020 in their GCSE studies. Our special guest speaker was Old Edwardian Lindsay Hong, COO of Locaria. Lindsay left KEHS in 2002 to read Oriental Studies at the University of Oxford. She then took an MBA in International Business in Taipei, cementing her fluency in Mandarin Chinese. After starting her career in management consulting, she moved into the digital sphere, where she has remained ever since. Today, Locaria is a leading provider of global online content services. In layperson's terms, Locaria translates the online presence of major brands to suit local audiences, helping them to maximise their effectiveness over varied international territories. Lindsay spoke to the girls about the importance of their "King Edwardsiness", and how, although they may not realise it now, that quality would mean the world of difference to them in the future. She identified three key traits of "King Edwardsy" people: a genuine intellectual curiosity; the confidence to challenge and debate with people the right way and a desire for, and appreciation of, excellence. Lindsay prompted girls to surround themselves with people who hold these qualities and who come from diverse backgrounds. Thank you to Lindsay, and to all of the parents, staff, guests and visitors who joined us to make the day such a success. And, of course, enormous congratulations to the Class of 2020 on their dedication, perseverance and amazing results.
