Law & Linguistics Talk

On Tuesday 9th October, two Old Edwardians, both eminent in their respective fields of corporate law, visited KEHS and spoke to students about the value of studying languages and how important the skills they learned through studying languages have been to their international careers. Natalie Boyd and Stephanie Hepburn speak eight different foreign languages between them and that’s not even including Latin! It was a very insightful session with Stephanie emphasising the importance of languages in becoming an active global citizen, and particularly how understanding cultural nuances has been vital to her business acumen. Both spoke fondly about their time at School and how, aside from the wonderful academics of their education at KEHS, the thing that girls will find most useful in their future lives is the soft skills that they learn. Natalie spoke about how KEHS gave them the gumption and the confidence to succeed, quite often in male dominated environments. Their key message was about the value of doing what you love and treating setbacks as opportunities to learn
