Banned Books Week

This week girls have had the chance to explore different books which have been banned at some point since being published. Over 11,300 books have been challenged, and many of these are for surprising reasons. Popular books including The Harry Potter Series by J K Rowling, by Lewis Carrol, and by George Orwell have all been banned for various reasons. This annual event, which was launched in 1982, celebrates individuals’ freedom to read, and encourages girls to explore some of the exciting and perhaps controversial books that the Library has to offer.
