A Level English Trip to London

On Wednesday 7th March, A Level English students travelled to London to see the RSC’s critically acclaimed production of Shakespeare’s Hamlet at the Hackney Empire. The play, starring Paapa Essiedu in the title role, tells the story of the young Prince Hamlet who is sent by the ghost of his father to avenge his brutal murder. Throughout the day, the girls also had the opportunity to visit Old St Pancras Church to get a first-hand glimpse of The Hardy Tree, as well as the gravestone of Mary Wollstonecraft and William Godwin. They were then able to explore the British Library exhibition to see Thomas Hardy’s original manuscripts, amongst many other great literary works. The day was a fantastic opportunity to support the study of Shakespeare and Hardy outside of the classroom and to experience the rich literary culture of the capital.
