National Success in Music

Congratulations to a number of our girls who have recently achieved success in national ensembles: Alisha Narendran, in the Upper Fourth, has been offered a place in the National Children’s Choir and will be attending her first course with them at Easter. Naina Reddy, also in the Upper Fourth, has been awarded the “Kathy Ludlow Viola Prize” by the National Children’s Orchestra for Under 13s, which is an annual award presented to the most promising viola player of the year. Congratulations to Samantha Burley who led the Main Orchestra in the National Children’s Orchestras of Great Britain performance at Symphony Hall. On 2nd and 3rd December, the Under 13s Orchestra and Main Orchestra from the National Children’s Orchestras of Great Britain came together to perform a spectacular concert at Symphony Hall. Samantha Burley, Ivy Lau and Bronagh Lee were members of the Main Orchestra, and Lydia Jin and Naina Reddy were in the Under 13s Orchestra. They practised for the entire Saturday and Sunday with the concert in the evening. The programme included pieces by Gershwin, Kodály and Ravel. As well as performing as an orchestra, the Under 13s sang “Once In Royal David’s City” and “We Wish You A Merry Christmas” whilst the Main Orchestra played the accompaniment. Congratulations to Samantha Burley for leading the Main Orchestra.
