Food Studies News

On Friday 1st December, the Lower Fifth Food Studies group went to the NEC for the BBC Good Food Show. We were welcomed by the bustling atmosphere of the public and many other schools, all there for one reason: FOOD!! Sampling the various treats and sweets, from chocolate fudge to Mexican fajitas, many of us had a chance to buy scrumptious souvenirs to take back to our jealous family. After visiting hundreds of the stores, we had the opportunity to meet the one and only Nadia, the winner of Bake Off! She showed us how to make nut roast and a delicious Christmas dessert which we can’t wait to make at home. To add to this, the show was extremely entertaining! Overall, we had a great time (especially our stomachs), and a few lucky people even snapped a selfie with Steven, a Bake Off finalist this year. Thank you to Mrs Weiner and Mrs Cox for this educational and fulfilling trip!

To get into the Christmas spirit, this year the Food Studies Department also held their very own Christmas Cake Bake Off. The Lower Fifth worked diligently to make a scrumptious fruit cake and practised decorating cakes for several weeks. Their hard worked paid off, and out of the 23 almost professional bakers, the winners were Ria Gupta in 1st place, followed by Imaan Sattar and Aleesha Hassan. It was even judged by our own Mary Berry, Mrs Clark. Ria Gupta and Krithika Manigandan
