Italian
|
Italian is offered as an option every other year in L5 and it is becoming an increasingly popular choice. Girls follow an accelerated GCSE course which is completed in two years. Many of them continue to AS and A2 level. Extra- curricular courses may be offered to those girls who did not have the opportunity to join the course in their year.
Aims and Objectives of the Department Our courses aim to instil a passion for the language in a challenging and enjoyable way so that all girls feel fully stretched and confident in the four skills of reading, speaking, listening and writing. We encourage active participation and we engage girls in a variety of stimulating learning activities including group and paired work, whole class and independent tasks complemented by IT resources. The courses also aim to
a) Develop knowledge and understanding of Italy and communities where the language is spoken
b) Develop knowledge and understanding of the grammar and the ability to apply it
d) Provide a suitable foundation for further study of the language. A wide range of resources are available in the library for self- studies including books, audio and visual material. New Italian films and book are added regularly for the girls to borrow.
Success Rate The Italian department has an excellent record of results in public examinations and many girls go forward to study Italian at university, either as a specialism or in combination with other subjects. Trips and Visits
