Prospective Parents
| Thank you for visiting our website. We hope that both parents and girls will find plenty of things to interest them here.
Our website is not just for newcomers to KEHS but for all of our school community to use. There is a whole range of general information about the school and as you navigate through the site you can also see what the girls have been enjoying recently. At KEHS we aim to offer an education second to none for bright girls who like original ideas and new challenges. Girls combine a rigorous academic programme with high quality extra-curricular activities and of course each and everyone of them has lots of fun along the way! Girls do very well in external examinations and we launch each of them off to the best, top quality universities. School life is all underpinned with an ethos of service. The girls who come to KEHS know how privileged they are to be at a top UK school with teachers who are passionate about their subjects. They learn that their responsibility is to seize every opportunity so they can prepare themselves for helping others in their adult life. We welcome girls from all backgrounds. The school thrives on the rich, cultural and social mix of girls who are attracted to the school. The school has a generous means-tested bursary scheme to ensure girls from families who could not otherwise afford to attend KEHS can still come here to the school. Do come and find out if this is the school for you. Browse our website – we regularly update our news page, so do keep coming back – and most important of all: visit us. If you would like, then we can arrange a personal appointment with the Principal, Sarah Evans. We have three open occasions a year but we are more than happy to see families at other times, if they are unable to attend these. We love showing visitors around our school. We are all very proud of KEHS! Do come and visit us and in the meantime please do spend time finding out about us by browsing our school website. 11+ examinations for entry in September 2012 will take place on 26th and 27th January and the closing date for applications is Thursday 19th January 2012. |
Frequently Asked QuestionsCan I apply to KEHS and independent schools?Yes. Each independent school has its own entrance procedure and you apply to each separately Can I apply to KEHS as well as state schools?Yes but you do not put KEHS on the Local Authority form. You can apply for state schools and as many independent schools as you want. Is there any help with the fees available for less well off families?Yes the school runs a means-tested bursary scheme. About 20% of the school is on means-tested assistance. Most of this fund is provided by the King Edward Foundation. What happens if my financial situation changes suddenly for the worst while my daughter is at the school, and I can no longer afford the fees?If you qualify for the means-tested assistance, you can apply for it when you need it. The school tries to ensure funds are available to help with sudden problems. Are non-means-tested scholarships available?A very few are awarded each year and these will normally be a small percentage only of the fees. This is because governors have chosen to use the vast majority of the Foundation resources to help families in financial need. Will there be a lot of expenses other than fees once my daughter is at the school? No. Uniform and lunches are not included in the fees but apart from that any additional expenses would normally be entirely voluntary. If your daughter wants to take part in an activity that does cost additional money, such as a theatre visit and you were unable to afford it, the school does have funds to provide a subsidy towards the visit, if it is clearly important for your daughter’s academic progress that she goes. Can my daughter stay in school after lessons have finished?Your daughter may well have after school activities she wants to attend. If she is staying in school without an activity, there is a procedure for her to follow and although there is no formal supervision, girls can stay to work up till 6.00pm (or 5.00 on Fridays) |
