Rules and Regulations
All pupils of the school are bound by rules, and by such other rules and regulations as may be made from time to time by the Principal, under the following headings:
AttendanceThe usual hours of attendance, which may be modified on occasions, are: Monday to Thursday inclusive from 8.45am to 4.00pm for most girls and Friday 8.45am to 3.20pm for all girls. There is no formal supervision in school between 07.30 (when the buildings are unlocked) and 08.45 but least one member of staff is always present between these times. Pupils may arrive at school from 08.00 (a few have permission to arrive earlier), and are expected to go home by 16.30 unless they are staying late for a function or supervised activity. Between 16.00 and 17.45 there is always a senior member of staff on duty in order to supervise pupils and after 17.45 there is a porter on site who will stay until the last girl has been collected and who will contact a senior member of staff if assistance is required. It is essential for girls to attend school regularly and punctually and any girl not attending punctually at the appointed hours or being absent (except in the case of illness) without permission previously obtained from the Prinicipal is liable to dismissal. |
Care of PropertyAll personal property and school books must be clearly marked with the owner’s name. Money should always be carried in a marked purse on the person or given in at the school office. Care should be taken that it is never left in desks or cloakrooms. Although every care will be taken to prevent losses, the governors cannot accept responsibility for the loss of pupils’ clothing or effects. |
Notice of LeavingBefore the removal of any pupil from the school, notice in writing must be given to the Principal not later than the first day of the previous term. In default of such notice being received a sum equal to a term’s fee must be paid in lieu thereof. |
Use of Illegal SubstancesThe normal sanction for possession or involvement with drugs in school is expulsion. Alternative sanctions, when there are mitigating circumstances, could involve suspension and a final warning. Any pupil found selling drugs to another pupil is likely to be expelled and, following consultation with the Governors, the matter may be referred to the police. |
SanctionsThe admission of a girl is conditional on acceptance of the rules published by the school from time to time. While every effort is made to inform parents about serious breaches of school rules, it must also be accepted that the Principal has complete discretion in the imposition of sanctions, including suspension or expulsion. Where parents consider that a particular sanction is unjustified they may follow the complaints procedure. |
