KEHS Engineers Excellence!

KEHS has a strong history of excelling in subjects traditionally thought of as more popular with boys, including all of the Sciences and Engineering. 2010 leavers include two girls who are one step closer to fulfilling their dreams with the help of an OCR Bursary which will fund places for both girls to study at the University of Cambridge.

Cathy Solari from Sutton Coldfield gained five A*s and will be reading Physical Natural Sciences and Alison Hobbs of Harborne, has achieved four Grades A* and intends to read Engineering. Both girls applied for funding from the West Midlands Bursary scheme and were overjoyed when their applications were accepted.

Cathy comments, ’I have been interested in the sciences since starting at KEHS, and the support I’ve received from my teachers here has played a large part in making me aware of the opportunities available. My ambition is to become an astronaut and I can’t wait to start at Cambridge.’

Alison Hobbs’ interest in Engineering started at home as both of her parents studied engineering. She says, ‘The opportunity to study at Cambridge is fantastic and I’m looking forward to showing the boys how it’s done!’

Sarah Evans comments, ‘We are extremely proud of all of the hard work put in by our A level students and their well-deserved results. The current economic climate and subsequent competition for higher education and employment makes the KEHS ethos of developing individual thinking even more applicable and will help stand all 2010 leavers in good stead for their journeys ahead.’
