Salsa Workshop

The Spanish Department organised a Salsa session as part of its cultural programme. The students had the opportunity to learn the basic steps of Salsa with the director of “Simply Salsa.” The event was very successful with  the full participation of Lower 5th girls, three great dancers from the Lower 6th and some daring teachers! We would like to thank you Ms. G. Chapman for your demonstration.
Salsa is danced informally in Central and South America but has become quite popular in the UK. The name "Salsa" is the Spanish word for sauce, meaning a spicy flavour but could also refer to a mixture of elements. The Salsa aesthetic is flirtatious and very energetic. Salsa music has been derived from the “cuban son” and “rumba”.
