Sixth Form Seminar Lunch

This term the Sixth Form Seminar Lunch saw Rachael Dunstan, Laura Ralph, Jess Ostrowicz and Saranne Moule deliver their research papers on Greek Family Values, the works of E M Forster, focusing in particular on the novel “A Passage to India” and a moving account of Saranne and Jess’s visit to Auschwitz and Birkenau Concentration Camps. Below Laura tells us a little bit more about her presentation.

I was really pleased to be given the opportunity to speak about a novel I have enjoyed so much - ‘A Passage to India’ by E M Forster - although on the day itself I could hardly string a sentence together even in ordinary conversation! However, the combination of reassuring friends and a relaxed, encouraging atmosphere helped me to produce a coherent presentation.  The question session was suitably profound (perhaps because my talk followed after a moving discussion of the Holocaust) and I enjoyed the challenge of thinking on the spot.  I even enjoyed eating lunch between my headmistress and deputy headmistress!  I am very grateful to Mrs Shore-Nye for helping me to explore my topic of interest, and providing a sound base of ideas to move out from in my independent research.
