Walk Like an Egyptian …

For its most recent venture, the RS Department took GCSE and A level Religious Studies students on the trip of a lifetime to Egypt. Leaving ice and freezing cold at a snowy Birmingham airport, we arrived at Luxor to a balmy 70°. Our Nile cruiser travelled from Luxor to Aswan and, on return, from Luxor to Denderah. Included was an internal flight with Air Egypt to the amazing spectacle that is Abu Simbel.

Although by the end we were all ‘templed out’, a great time was had by all and we gained lots of knowledge about Egyptian religious beliefs and particularly about the Egyptian ‘Book of the Dead’. All of this is directly relevant to study of RS at A2 level.

The Muslim and Christian people of Egypt made us very welcome and it was very atmospheric to float down the Nile listening to the Call to Prayer from numerous mosques.

A great trip … but where are we going next?!!
