Welcome to KEHS.
King Edward VI High School for Girls is a multi-layered, modern school. Each girl is encouraged to engage with the rich world of ideas and explore intellectually as far as she can. Girls are eager to develop their creative and physical talents. KEHS girls revel in the wide range of activities outside of the classroom that are on offer. Each girl’s personal journey through school will be different, but for all, a KEHS education ensures she can play a full part in the challenges and opportunities of life in the 21st century. Girls come here wanting to learn and grow with a natural curiosity about life, knowledge and people.
At KEHS we are preparing girls for a fulfilling life as 21st Century women providing students with opportunities to be independent thinkers and confident leaders. Academic scholarship, that is at the heart of KEHS, is embedded not only in practical application but in fundamental moral values that mean KEHS girls will not just be effective and successful leaders but the great leaders of the future.
This year the school is celebrating its 125th Anniversary; we are using this occasion not only to recognise the school’s past achievements but also to look to the future.
The recent exhibition, organised by the Old Edwardians, chronicling the history of the school was not only fascinating in itself but was also a reminder of how KEHS continues to move forwards. Some underlying values hold true through out the 125 years: a curriculum that is not solely based on delivering excellent examination results but also committed to allowing the whole child to flourish, the exceptionally high quality of extra-curricular activities on offer and the emphasis that has been placed throughout the school’s history on service to the community.
As the school looks ahead two exciting projects are planned. We are moving forward with a long held dream to build a performing arts centre with King Edward’s School for Boys, which will be a stunning showcase for the huge talent in music, dance and drama; the centre will draw on the latest technology allowing the arts at KEHS to blossom even more richly.
We are also mindful of all the girls who would flourish here, but whose families’ financial circumstances mean that they cannot afford full fees and despite the large number of generous means tested bursaries already available, there is still not enough for everyone. For that reason we are launching a 125th Anniversary Bursary Appeal to enable more girls for whom this would be the right school, to be able to join us here.
KEHS has 125 years of excellence behind it.
We are ensuring its future shines as brilliantly.
