LAMDA Successes!

Well done to Sparsha in L4K for achieving a Grade 4 Merit in her Speaking Verse and Prose LAMDA exam and to Helena in L4H for also achieving a Merit in her Grade 3 Speaking Verse and Prose exam. Congratulations to Aarya in U4H for achieving a Grade 4 Merit in Acting.​

On Monday 25th September, A-Level students in the Upper and Lower Sixth were treated to two excellent academic talks by Professors William Doyle (Bristol University) and Michael Broers (Lady Margaret Hall College, Oxford).

KEHS Poet Laureate 2017

​In this week’s assembly, the winner of this year’s KEHS Poet Laureate competition was announced as Shivanii. Poems were entered on the theme of ‘Friendship’ and as always the standard was very high.

London Shine Walk

On Saturday 23rd September, Rohita from U4H, Shreya from L4H and Aditi from U4K took part in The London Shine Walk, a marathon night walk in support of Cancer Research. The girls, who started the half marathon at 8:00pm and finished at 12:45am, raised a total of £325 in aid of the event.

Careers Talks

Last week, the Upper Fifth attended their first careers talks of the Autumn term. Each girl chose to listen to one of three talks by visiting speakers. Julian Harris of GVA came to speak to girls about the property lifecycle, the range of roles available and how underrepresented women currently are in the industry.

Lower Fifth Visit to Caerleon Roman Baths

​On Tuesday 12th September, KEHS students went on a trip to the Caerleon Roman Fortress and Baths. Located in South-East Wales, the Roman Baths Museum is home to the most complete Roman amphitheatre in Britain and the last remaining Roman legionary barracks anywhere in Europe.

On Wednesday 13th September, staff at KEHS took part in the national ‘Cycle to Work Day’. This annual event, which began in 2013, encourages adults across the UK to get on their bike and join the nation’s biggest one-day celebration of cycle commuting.

​In July, the Netball and Hockey squads from Lower Fifth to Upper Sixth went on a Sports Tour to Sri Lanka. After almost a day of travelling we arrived in Columbo airport ready and raring to go.

Sneha's Charity Skydive

During the summer break, Sneha took part in a charity skydive in aid of Macmillan Cancer Research. The skydive, which took place at Old Sarum in Salisbury, saw Sneha plummet from a height of 15,000 feet—the highest point to jump from in the UK —followed by a free fall distance of 10,000 feet.

​In July, Lauren was invited to give a one-hour solo recital for the International Conference on Women in Physics (organised by the Institute of Physics) in the Elgar concert hall at the University of Birmingham.

Silver Duke of Edinburgh Expedition

​With GCSE results looming, 27 Upper Fifth girls headed to Shropshire for three days to complete their Silver Duke of Edinburgh qualifying expeditions. Two groups coped very well with thick fog on top of the Long Mynd and demonstrated their proficiency at navigating without being able to see where they were going.
