Historical Association Great Debate

Congratulations to Roni of U5H who represented KEHS at the Birmingham heat of the Historical Association competition. She delivered a 5 minute speech in response to the question 'How did the First World War affect me and my community?" and was commended by the judges for her impressive public speaking ability

Trip to the British Museum

On Monday 14th November the U6 Classical Civilisation group, accompanied by Dr Gruzelier and Dr Voigt, took part in a study day at the British Museum in London. Designed to complement our A2 course, it involved a series of lectures and interactive handling sessions, during which we learnt more about some of the vases

Children in Need

​Following all the coverage in the media and our own assembly last week, the school has responded well in supporting this charity, whose work transforms so many lives across the U.K. Today, we have seen an array of spotty hairbands, scarves, tights, socks and other accessories.

A Christmas Carol

​Thursday and Friday evening saw the culmination of many months of hard work. This year's Junior Production of 'A Christmas Carol' saw over 80 students from KEHS & KES take to the Ruddock Stage for Dicken's classic ghost story.

On Tuesday we welcomed almost 100 children from a number of primary schools across Birmingham to our Autumn Challenge Workshop. Talented children from Years 5 and 6 came to the school to follow Maths, English and Science classes with some of our teachers.

Astronomy News

As you may or may not already know, on Monday 14th November a supermoon occurred. This meant that the Moon appeared up to 14% bigger and 30 % brighter than usual. A supermoon occurs when there is a full Moon when the Moon is at its closest point to Earth.

Lunchtime Recital at the Barber Institute

On Friday 11th November Isla Atay and Lauren Zhang featured in our annual lunchtime recital at the Barber Institute of Fine Arts. Isla began with an expressive performance of the first movement of Bach’s Sonata No. 5 for flute and continuo, followed by McGuire’s impressively difficult Prelude No. 3.

On Wednesday, A Level Psychology students attended the Science and Pseudoscience conference in Nottingham. The event both educated and entertained students, whilst facilitating their understanding of Science and how this is used in Psychology.

On Wednesday the Thirds attended the annual King Edward VI Foundation Service which took place at St Martin’s Church in the Bull Ring. Three services were held throughout the day to accommodate the Year 7s of all the schools who form part of the King Edward Foundation.

Awards Evening

​On Friday 4th October, we welcomed the Class of 2016 back to school to receive their A Level certificates and celebrate all they achieved at KEHS. After a warm reception reuniting with their former teachers, the girls and their families were regaled with a keynote speech from Old Edwardian Kate Goldman.

Speech Day

​On Tuesday 8th November, our annual Speech Day took place in the RPAC, celebrating the successes of last year’s Upper 5th. The ceremony began with a performance by Dorothy Zhang on the flute, followed by a heart warming speech from the Principal, Mrs Clark, congratulating girls on their achievements.

​On Monday 7th November several of our girls performed on the Ruddock Hall stage in the Woodwind and Brass Instrumental Evening. The programme began with a flute ensemble, featuring Jieyi Li, Tara Desai and Lisa Gunn alongside pupils from KES.

Congratulations to Elise Chang and Jessica Tedd in the Upper 5th who have recently been awarded certificates from the Royal Astronomical Society as they were among the top 12 highest performing students for GCSE Astronomy in the country this year. Well done girls, this is an excellent achievement!
