Community Read

​On Monday, the Thirds took part in our annual Community Read event. Over the last 12 months each girl has been asked to read five books, producing a response to each of the books which could be in the form of prose reading; a written account or even a non-verbal response.

Go4SET Engineering Team win their Regional Heat

​Congratulations to Shaima Mughees, Eva Reilly, Sanjana Sudeshkumar, Rhea Takhar and Lauren Zhang who have been invited to represent our region at the National Science and Engineering Competition Finals to be held at The Big Bang Fair at the NEC next March.

Women in Islam

​This week our Lower U4th girls enjoyed a stimulating morning exploring the topic of 'Women in Islam'. The majority of the sessions were run by Muslim women themselves and they shared something of how their faith informs their lives.

Thank You Film Awards

Following on from the newsletter last week, we are really pleased to announce that Hannah Kisiala achieved the overall runner up award with her film ‘Thank you to Primary School Friends’. We are looking forward to hearing more about the event when the girls talk to the whole school in one of our assemblies next week.

Beyond the Examination

This week, Mr Kavanagh and Ms Pallister spoke to the U4th about KEHS’s enrichment programme. All of the girls were given a copy of ‘Widening Horizons’ with suggested reading lists and enrichment activities.

On Thursday we held an excellent Sixth Form seminar lunch. Kitty Cattell and Alyssa Van Den Broeck gave presentations to a panel of parents, girls and staff, fielding some tough questions from the audience.

Trips to Complement the Curriculum

​This week Lower 6th Theatre Studies students visited the ‘Theatre Exhibition’ at the V&A in London as well as exploring 16th century theatre at The Globe. The Thirds visited Chepstow Castle on the 800th anniversary of the signing of Magna Carta.

Bloodhound SSC

On Wednesday and Thursday, two Lower Fifth classes took part in a workshop on 'Bloodhound SSC' - a car which aims to break the land speed record in November 2015. Two Bloodhound ambassadors from Swansea University (including KEHS old girl Natalie Dobson) discussed the creation of Bloodhound

Annabel wins the ‘Mother Tongue, Other Tongue’ Poetry Competition

​We are very proud to announce that Annabel Maguire in Year 13 has won this year’s, ‘Mother Tongue, Other Tongue’ poetry competition for the West Midlands region with her poem ‘Brûler Vivante’.

Musical Performances

On 10th June parents, girls and staff attended another beautifully prepared ‘Performance Platform’. We heard a wonderful set from Kitty Cattell who sang Alleluia by Mozart, Thy Hand Bellinda from Dido and Aenaes by Purcell.

A Unique Opportunity for our 6th Form Girls

​Dame Louise Makin (class of 1978), CEO of BTG plc and a Trustee of the Outward Bound Trust, has kindly offered to fully fund a place for one of our 6th Form girls to attend a 19 day outward bound course during the summer vacation.

Maths Successes

​Congratulations to a number of our girls for their achievement in the Intermediate Maths Challenge. Kirsten Rachman and Jessica Tedd were awarded ‘Certificates of Merit’ with Charlotte Smith, Melissa Chung, Kiran Saini, Alinka Torlinska, Melissa Yao and Melissa Yuan receiving ‘Certificates of Participation’.

KEHS/KES Living History Society 2014-2015

​As part of the KEHS/KES Living History Society, our girls have taken part in a variety of exciting events including workshops at Tatton Park and Raglan Castle. The event at Tatton Park was the most demanding the girls had ever participated in with over 12,000 visitors.

Teenstar UK

​Congratulations to Kiera Battersby who has made it through to the national final of ‘Teenstar UK’, a singing competition which attracts over 9,000 entrants annually. Keira competed in both the regional and area finals at the NEC and will now go on to compete in the national final, also at the NEC, in July.
