MODERN LANGUAGES AT OXFORD CONFERENCE

On Wednesday afternoon we hosted the ‘Studying Modern Languages at Oxford Conference’ in the Ruddock Hall. Over 80 students from 10 schools across Birmingham attended the conference which was delivered by Oxford University tutors in French, Spanish and German.

LINGUISTICS OLYMPIAD SUCCESS

Earlier this term, 25 girls from the Sixth Form sat the Advanced Examination of the UK Linguistics Olympiad. This is a challenging test in which girls have to solve linguistic data problems from a wide range of languages with which they are not expected to be familiar.

​Today marks 72 years since the liberation of the largest Nazi Death Camp, Auschwitz-Birkenau. To recognise the importance of this day, a group of teachers and students put together an assembly in which the atrocities of the Holocaust were respectfully commemorated.

Historical Association Great Debate

Congratulations to Roni of U5H who represented KEHS at the Birmingham heat of the Historical Association competition. She delivered a 5 minute speech in response to the question 'How did the First World War affect me and my community?" and was commended by the judges for her impressive public speaking ability

Astronomy News

As you may or may not already know, on Monday 14th November a supermoon occurred. This meant that the Moon appeared up to 14% bigger and 30 % brighter than usual. A supermoon occurs when there is a full Moon when the Moon is at its closest point to Earth.

​On Tuesday 8th November, our annual Speech Day took place in the RPAC, celebrating the successes of last year’s Upper 5th. The ceremony began with a performance by Dorothy Zhang on the flute, followed by a heart warming speech from the Principal, Mrs Clark, congratulating girls on their achievements.

Congratulations to Elise Chang and Jessica Tedd in the Upper 5th who have recently been awarded certificates from the Royal Astronomical Society as they were among the top 12 highest performing students for GCSE Astronomy in the country this year. Well done girls, this is an excellent achievement!

Engineering Education Scheme Launch

​On 18th October, four girls in the 6th form, Asmita Goswami, Amber Conway, Sirui Zhuge and Melissa Chung, accompanied by Mrs Hall and Mr Pollard from the Physics Department, visited RAF Cosford for the Engineering Education Scheme launch. EES is offered as a Friday afternoon activity to girls in the Sixth Form.
