Volcanology Lecture

On Friday 10th November, the Upper Fourth came together to enjoy an interesting and engaging interactive Volcanology lecture by Dr Phil Gravestock. We were introduced to an imaginary situation (although based on real volcanic activity). We worked in small groups and found it educational to know what the meanings of the alert levels actually were. Throughout the afternoon, we also learnt about how volcanology technology has advanced, what the different types of volcanoes are as well as learning about some of Dr Gravestove's personal experiences as a volcanologist. His humour throughout made for an exciting afternoon and learning about the Hawaiian islands was certainly one of the highlights of the day! This workshop was a wonderful accompaniment to our work on the topic and it had the right balance of fun and learning!
