Historical Association Great Debate - Birmingham Heat

Portia and Roni in the Lower Sixth competed at the Historical Association Great Debate this week delivering speeches on the most significant event in British democratic history. After a very high standard of speeches by all competitors, Portia was declared the overall winner! The judge was impressed with the ambitious nature of her speech and the depth of historical knowledge as she argued that the People’s Charter of 1838 was the most significant moment in British democratic history. Roni also impressed the judge with her excellent speech arguing persuasively for the 1689 Bill of Rights. Portia will now go forward to compete at the Historical Association national final at the House of Commons. Well done to Portia and Roni!
