King Edward VI High School for Girls is situated on a beautiful 50-acre site next to the University of Birmingham, which it shares with its brother school, King Edward’s School. Few day schools in this country enjoy such space and quality of buildings, and yet we are less than three miles from the city centre.

Sir Paul and Lady Ruddock Performing Arts Centre

The £11m Sir Paul and Lady Ruddock Performing Arts Centre, which opened in 2012, provides a 400-seater concert hall, 120-seater studio theatre, a dance studio and further provision for the teaching, rehearsal and practice of music, dance and drama.

Design Centre

The £3m Design Centre opened in January 2023 and features an enhanced exhibition space, modern classrooms, and workshop facilities. The centre is designed to inspire and improve the learning opportunities for students. It features contemporary design and environmentally friendly technologies. The facilities include a DT studio, two computing labs, a DT workshop, a ceramics studio, and an art library.

Sixth Form

We have two exclusive and beautifully furnished spaces in which our Sixth Formers can socialise, study and grab a bite to eat: Café Six, which serves light refreshments throughout the day, and The Atrium, a great place for relaxing or meeting to work collaboratively, and featuring its own computer room.

Sport facilities

The school’s extensive grounds provide outstanding facilities for sporting pursuits. The indoor sports hall is a hive of activity, with four badminton courts, an indoor netball court, basketball court, and indoor cricket nets.

There is also an indoor swimming pool, dance studio, fitness suite with cardio equipment, and a strength/conditioning area.

Outside the school main building, there are two astro hockey pitches, seven tennis courts, five outdoor netball courts, two 7-a-side football pitches, and a grass cricket wicket. The school also shares an international-standard athletics track with King Edward’s School and the University of Birmingham

Hiring our facilities

King Edward VI High School for Girls regularly lets out facilities to businesses and members of the public. We are situated in a beautiful location in central Birmingham, which is easily accessible by public transport, as well as having parking available on site.

Our state-of-the-art facilities, including a traditional hall, a music and drama studio, lecture theatre, and dining hall, offer the perfect setting for events, special occasions, photographic, film and video shoots.

The Performing Arts Centre (PAC), is situated in a spectacular position in the grounds of Chantry Court, with its beautiful oak tree at the front entrance. Large windows provide beautiful views across our site, and Winterbourne gardens from the Upper Studio.

The PAC houses: 

  • A stunning 400 seater concert hall, with the flexibility to host dance and drama performances in a variety of configurations, as well as serving its primary design function for orchestra and choir, with its celebrated acoustics
  • A 90 – 100 seater black box studio theatre
  • A rehearsal and multi-use studio, with mirrors for dance
  • A smaller musical rehearsal and performance room
  • A foyer and bar area.

 

All spaces are equipped with A/V facilities, and the studio and concert hall both have a high technical production specification. There is also plenty of backstage space, along with practice rooms, dressing rooms and meeting space. We can also provide Box Office and bar facilities.
